The Skipping Stone by Golby: Where Engineering Meets Emotion
The Skipping Stone is a sporty dress watch that commands attention with its sleek compressor-style case and mesmerising ripple-textured dial, a design that seems to move with the light, echoing the concentric waves formed when a stone dances across the surface of still water. This aqua gradient, oil-pressed dial is subtle artistry, balancing texture and depth.
The dual-timer rotating internal chapter ring, operated by the crown at 2 o’clock, continues Golby’s signature complication, practical, elegant, and distinctly them. The cut-out hour markers reveal crisp windows of BGW9 Super-LumiNova, glowing brilliantly in low light, while the skeletonised hands, inspired by the Mevagissey lighthouse, bring a touch of coastal character. A contrasting second hand adds a flash of colour, a subtle nod to the lighthouse’s weather vane.
The 5-link bracelet is engineered for comfort and versatility, featuring screw links, quick-release pins, and a push-button micro-adjust clasp offering up to 6mm of on-the-fly adjustment. The exhibition case back, framed in sapphire glass, reveals a custom rotor design, a window into the beating heart of the watch.
The branding has been reserved for the engraved crown and clasp, reflecting Golby’s desire for the watch to speak for itself, free from the need to interrupt the dial design with noisy branding.
Powering the watch is the Miyota 9015 automatic movement, a proven Japanese calibre celebrated for its slim profile, reliability, and accuracy. With a 42-hour power reserve, 24 jewels, 28,800 bph, and hacking functionality, it’s a movement built for those who value both performance and refinement. A colour-matched date window blends seamlessly into the dial, maintaining the watch’s clean, calm aesthetic.
Each Skipping Stone ships on a steel bracelet and includes a choice of an additional suede or leather strap, along with a screwdriver and warranty card.
**Please note, we are making a minor adjustment to the crown shown in the images, to enhance grip. The crown diameter will be increased by 1mm, making both crowns 6mm. The overall crown shape will remain fundamentally unchanged (see image).
The Story Behind the Ripples
The inspiration for the Skipping Stone was born on the Cornish coast. During a family kayaking trip between Pentewan and Mevagissey, co-founders Craig and Sarah Golby and their son visited a favourite spot, a hidden cove accessible only by water. As they skimmed stones across the surface, they were captivated by the ripples that spread outward — fleeting, perfect, and endlessly fascinating. That moment became the soul of the Skipping Stone: a watch that captures nature’s rhythm and transforms it into timeless design.
